TORONTO (AP) Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Lou Lamoriello will not return to the role next season.Team President Brendan Shanahan said Monday he was sticking to a plan that called for the 75-year-old Lamoriello to serve as GM for three years and then transition to senior adviser for four years.Shanahan said he doesn’t have a timeline for filling the GM position.”I haven’t begun that process and that’s why nobody has been named,” Shanahan said. ”My focus was on Lou and making a decision, taking a little bit of time right after the season ended to really reflect on that. So I’m just handling one thing at a time.”The Maple Leafs set franchise records for points (105) and wins (49) in the regular season, but were eliminated in seven games by the Boston Bruins in the first round of the playoffs last week. Coach Mike Babcock, Shanahan and the rest of the team expected more this year after getting back to the postseason a year ago.Auston Matthews found his scoring touch amid injury woes and goalie Frederik Andersen set a franchise record for wins in a season with 38. Among the issues for the new GM: Veteran forwards James van Riemsdyk, Tyler Bozak and Leo Komarov are among the players set to hit unrestricted free agency Columbus Blue Jackets Hats Authentic , and Matthews, Mitch Marner and William Nylander are due big raises in the not-too-distant future.”I would like to take this opportunity to thank Lou for his tireless work over the last three years as general manager,” Shanahan said. ”His leadership in helping establish a cultural foundation, as well as his invaluable mentorship to everyone in this organization, has been instrumental in our development.”Lamoriello won the Stanley Cup three times as GM of the New Jersey Devils. Now he will take on a new role for Toronto.”It’s an unknown,” Lamoriello said. ”I’ve never been in a situation like that. So like everything else in life Custom Columbus Blue Jackets Jerseys , you learn as you go and make the best of it.”The Hockey Hall of Famer also served as GM of the American team that won the World Cup of Hockey in 1996. ANAHEIM , Calif. (AP) — Although Los Angeles is below the 14th-place Anaheim Ducks in the Western Conference standings, the last-place Kings have emerged on top of their closest rivals in both of their head-to-head matchups so far this season. The Freeway Faceoff is about all that’s left to motivate these teams while Southern California’s hockey renaissance ends with a thud.Carl Grundstrom scored his second NHL goal in his second career game and the Kings won for just the second time in 15 games, beating the Ducks 3-2 Sunday night in a meeting of once-powerful rivals going through nightmare seasons.Dustin Brown and Kyle Clifford also scored first-period goals, and Jonathan Quick made 18 saves in the Kings’ second win over Anaheim this season. There are two more meetings in the Freeway Faceoff over the next four weeks, putting some excitement in the Southland before both of its hockey teams likely miss the playoffs in the same season for the first time since 2004.“We’re both not in playoff spots, but we’re still playing for pride,” Clifford said. “And they’re always a rival over there.”The stakes are usually higher for Los Angeles and Anaheim. These teams are coming off a brilliant seven-year stretch in which the Kings won two Stanley Cup championships and the Ducks won five consecutive Pacific Division titles while reaching two conference finals. The good times abruptly ended last spring when both teams were swept in the first round of the playoffs, and this year has been miserable since the Kings flopped in the opening weeks and the Ducks fell into a midseason tailspin. There’s always a spark when the rivals get together, but the Kings had enough resilience to beat the Ducks again despite going scoreless in the final 43 minutes.“You knew right off that it was a pretty competitive atmosphere within both teams,” said coach Willie Desjardins, whose first game behind the Kings’ bench was a 4-1 win over Anaheim on Nov. 6. “If you look at their history, both of these clubs have had really good teams for a number of years Milan Lucic Jersey Kids , so it’s not surprising that they’ve played in lots of big games. It’s always good when you get to be a part of a challenge like that.”Jakob Silfverberg and Daniel Sprong scored for the Ducks, who followed up an impressive performance against Montreal with a lifeless effort against their neighbors. Ryan Miller stopped 22 shots.“First half of the game, not even close to good enough,” Silfverberg said. “We’ve been playing pretty good, but that was a step way back. We got flat-footed against a team that wanted it more. We kind of turned it on in the third period, but it was too late.”Honda Center wasn’t completely full when the puck dropped on the clubs’ 139th regular-season meeting, but the sellout crowd eventually arrived while Brown and Sprong traded goals 65 seconds apart in the opening minutes. Clifford then put Los Angeles ahead with his career-best eighth goal midway through the first period. The Kings held Anaheim to two shots in the opening period and took a 3-1 lead when Grundstrom nimbly converted Adrian Kempe’s pass on a rush. Grundstrom, a 21-year-old Swede who came up from the AHL on Friday, joined Brian Boyle as the only rookies in Kings history to score a goal in each of their first two games. After a scoreless second period, Silfverberg emerged from behind Quick’s net and trimmed the Kings’ lead on an unassisted goal with 7:44 left. The Ducks couldn’t even it late, losing to the Kings for just the 10th time in their last 27 meetings.“In the last six or seven games, we’ve been the better team in the majority of those Oscar Klefbom Jersey ,” Ducks assistant coach Marty Wilford said. “Tonight was a slow start, and it’s tough to chase the game, as we’ve learned all year. It’s tough to catch up, especially against a team like LA. There really wasn’t much space. They checked very hard.”NOTES: Boyle scored in each of his first two games for Los Angeles in February 2008. … Silfverberg has points in a career-best five straight games. … Ducks C Ryan Kesler missed his second straight game with a hip injury. The 34-year-old veteran had major hip surgery before last season, and he has just eight points in 60 games this season. … Kings F Brendan Leipsic was scratched for the first time in 59 games. He hadn’t missed a game since Los Angeles claimed him off waivers from Vancouver on Dec. 3.UP NEXTKings: Host Predators on Thursday night.Ducks: Host Predators on Tuesday night. WASHINGTON (AP) — Cameras followed Willie O’Ree’s every move and flashbulbs popped as the hockey pioneer toured the Smithsonian’s Museum of African American History and Culture. When the player who broke the NHL’s color barrier in 1958 stood next to a statue of Jackie Robinson, Commissioner Gary Bettman paused to take his phone out and snap a few photos of his own. O’Ree and Bettman have attended countless events together over the past two decades, but this tour on the opening day of the season and a month before they’re inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame together was a unique opportunity for an influential newsmaker to immerse himself in hundreds of years of history.“It brought back a lot of memories for me,” O’Ree said Wednesday. “My grandparents, they were slaves, and then bringing up to date, it’s just amazing. I had a few tears in my eyes there.”With Bettman by his side, O’Ree wiped tears from his eyes as sports curator Damion Thomas talked about the small buildings slaves slept in in after picking cotton from sunrise to sunset. He stopped to read about Michael Jordan’s influence and got a kick out of a story about Chuck Berry driving a red Cadillac on stage to perform at St. Louis’ Fox Theatre.Memories came flooding back in a room featuring a picture of one of Robinson’s games in Atlanta with so many people packed into the stadium that some were on the field. O’Ree sat down in one of the replica seats from Ebbets Field and recalled meeting Robinson in the dugout after a game at age 14 and telling him he played not only baseball but hockey , too.“He remarked that, ‘I didn’t know that there were any black kids playing hockey,'” O’Ree said. “I said, ‘Yeah, there’s a few.'”Thirteen years later when O’Ree was playing professional hockey in Los Angeles, a coach introduced him to Robinson. Or, rather, re-introduced him.“Mr. Robinson turned around and said, ‘Willie O’Ree, aren’t you the young fella I met in Brooklyn?'” O’Ree said. “So he remembered me from 1949 to 1962 and that made a big impact on me.”O’Ree’s impact is still being felt today as there are now more than two dozen black players in the NHL. There isn’t yet anything about the Canadian-born O’Ree in the museum, though that could change after he and Bettman got to experience what it was all about.“This museum is amazing,” Bettman said. “As a bit of a history buff Ryan Strome Jersey , there’s so much I didn’t know and that I was learning and it’s clear to me that I have to come back. But as importantly to be able to experience this with Willie, special doesn’t begin to describe it.”O’Ree, 82, also wants to return with his family after getting only 90 minutes or so to walk around. But those were some important minutes for the museum itself with a living legend in its hallways.“It was an honor to tour through the museum with Willie,” Thomas said. “You’re not just sharing history with a member of the public, but you’re sharing history with a history maker. So, what you hope that you’re able to do in the museum is to have people see their contributions in a much larger light, have people be able to see how their contributions connect to other parts of history.”

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pittsburgh Penguins goalie Matt Murray tries to keep it simple. Show up for work. Try to improve a little bit each day. Don’t get too high or too low.Yes Andrew Hammond Jersey Womens , it’s boring. It’s also highly effective for a player who has regained his confidence and swagger just in time to re-establish his team as one of the league’s best.Murray stopped 36 shots in a 5-1 victory over Florida on Tuesday night to improve to 8-0 since returning from a lower-body injury. Shaky and uncertain in October and November, the 24-year-old has responded with the arguably the best stretch of his career, heady territory considering he already has a pair of Stanley Cup rings.Murray has a 1.24 goals-against average and a .966 save percentage during the unbeaten run that began on Dec. 15. While occasionally sloppy play by his teammates kept Murray plenty busy against the Panthers, he hardly appeared bothered while pushing the Penguins to their ninth win in their last 10 games.“It’d be nice to have a few more games where you don’t give them that many grade-A chances where guys are in all alone and forcing him to make the saves he had to make consistently,” said Penguins captain Sidney Crosby, who picked up his 20th goal of the season. “But it was one of those games he played great again.”It was a level of play Murray lacked during the opening two months. He was 4-5-1 with a 4.08 goals against in his first 11 appearances before a lingering lower-body injury sent him to injured reserve in mid-November. Casey DeSmith played solidly in Murray’s place and the Penguins didn’t exactly rush Murray back into net once he was medically cleared.Yet any notion of a goaltending controversy has evaporated. Murray has reasserted himself as the starter. While the Panthers controlled play for long stretches, Murray kept them at bay to keep Florida winless in its last seven trips to Pittsburgh.“Give their goalie credit, he played really well,” Panthers coach Bob Boughner said. “Ours didn’t.”Florida’s Roberto Luongo surrendered goals to Tanner Pearson and Bryan Rust in the first game’s first 3:03 was pulled after giving up four goals over the first 29 minutes, including short-handed scores by Rust and Riley Sheahan in the second that pushed Pittsburgh’s advantage to 4-0. Luongo finished with 12 saves on 16 shots before being removed in favor of James Reimer.Aaron Ekblad’s goal late in the second period gave him 62 in his career — the most ever by a Florida defenseman — but the Panthers never recovered from the early deficit.“Obviously, we try to prepare as best as we possibly can,” Ekblad said. “It’s on us as the leadership group to get the room ready, have the room prepared to play each night. We haven’t done that. It’s been guys, including myself J.T. Brown Jersey Womens , in the leadership group that haven’t got the job done early in games.”The Penguins saw their season-high eight-game winning streak end Sunday night against Chicago but wasted little time getting back on track.Pearson took a slick pass off the boards by Marcus Pettersson and raced down the right side before slipping the puck between Luongo’s legs 1:29 into the game. Rust doubled the lead 94 seconds later, collecting a feed from Jake Guentzel in front of Luongo and deking by the goaltender before tumbling into the net.The Panthers pressed in an effort to draw even but Murray kept Pittsburgh’s lead intact, including a stop on a short-handed breakaway by Colton Sceviour near the end of a busy first period in which Murray faced 15 shots.“If a team gets chances on our power play it’s usually a turnover, 2-on-1, something like that, so it happens. You’ve got to be ready for that,” Murray said. While Pittsburgh’s electric power play looked listless, the penalty killers made up for it. Matt Cullen and Rust broke in 2-on-2, a sequence that ended with Cullen hitting Rust in front of the net and Rust beating Luongo to make it 3-0 just 3:04 into the second. Sheahan pushed it to 4-0 less than six minutes later when he stripped the puck from Florida’s Keith Yandle, skated high into the Florida zone and whipped a wrist shot from the slot over Luongo’s glove for Pittsburgh’s 10th short-handed goal of the season.“I think we’re trying to skate a little bit more, trying to be a little bit more aggressive up ice,” Rust said. “And I guess (the goals) are just a product of that.”NOTES: The last time the Penguins had multiple short-handed goals in a game was on March 29, 2016 against Buffalo. … Florida fell to 9-11-2 on the road. … Pittsburgh F Patric Hornqvist left in the first period and did not return after getting hit with a puck. … Crosby has 20 goals in 12 seasons, tying a franchise record set held by team owner and Hall of Famer Mario Lemieux. … Both teams went 0 for 4 on the power play.UP NEXTPanthers: Continue a five-game road swing on Thursday in Edmonton.Penguins: Begin a five-game West Coast trip on Friday in Anaheim. The struggling Pittsburgh Penguins might be getting some help Wednesday when they host the Dallas Stars at PPG Paints Arena Tomas Plekanec Jersey Womens , while the Stars will be dealing with a key absence.Pittsburgh center and team captain Sidney Crosby appears to be close to returning after missing three games because of an upper-body injury.Crosby was a full participant in practice Tuesday.Article continues below ...Dallas goaltender Ben Bishop is expected to miss about a week because of a lower-body injury that forced him out of Monday’s 2-1 loss to the Rangers in New York.Crosby first rejoined his teammates on the ice for a morning skate Monday but did not take part in line rushes. Tuesday was a step forward.“It’s good to get out there with the guys, compete and get back into doing those regular things,” he said. “Just to be able to get contact and do regular drills, that’s a good sign. It feels good to be able to do those things.“We’ll see how I feel.”Crosby said it was difficult sitting out, especially with Pittsburgh mired in a 1-7-2 slump and an uncharacteristic 3-5-2 at home.“You want to be with the group regardless of winning or losing. You want to be out there,” he said. “But I think especially when you lose you just want to go and help any way you can. (I’m) trying to stay positive and do my best to get back.”Crosby had two goals, five points in the three games before he got hurt. He ranks third on the team with 19 points and is tied for second with eight goals.“I just felt like my timing, deciding when to shoot, when to look to pass, just attacking, I feel like things like that started to come,” Crosby said. “Hopefully, I can pick up there.”The Penguins’ other star center, Evgeni Malkin Tomas Tatar Jersey Womens , sat out practice Tuesday because of what coach Mike Sullivan called a “maintenance day,” but could be available to face Dallas. Center Matt Cullen has a lower-body injury that will keep him out “longer term,” according to Sullivan.Bishop’s injury “is soft tissue. It’s nothing serious,” Stars coach Jim Montgomery said.Anton Khudobin, who replaced Bishop against the Rangers, is expected to take over the No. 1 duties for the time being. The Stars are expected to recall Landon Bow to serve as the backup.“Nothing changes,” Khudobin said of moving up while Bishop is out.He took the loss Monday and is 2-2-1 in his five decisions over the past three weeks.“We have all the faith in (Khudobin), all the confidence in the world,” center Tyler Seguin said. The Stars have just three regulation losses over their past 11 games and the loss to New York ended a two-game winning streak, but Montgomery said his club’s work ethic is lacking.“I want guys to win one-on-one battles, and I want people stopping on pucks, besides the puck pressure,” Montgomery said. “The one thing I found inconsistent with our team has been our work ethic on a daily basis. That’s practice and games.“It’s something we’ve talked a lot about with the leadership group. I don’t think we understand yet what real hard work looks like.”

The Titans haven’t had much go right on Sunday and that includes the health of left tackle Taylor Lewan.Lewan left the game with a foot injury in the second quarter and he’s being called questionable to return. Tyler Marz has replaced Lewan in the lineup. The Titans fell behind 7-0 after a Taywan Taylor fumble and another turnover put them in position to fall further behind after cutting the Buffalo lead to four points. Taron Johnson stepped in front of a Marcus Mariota pass to Nick Williams and gave Buffalo possession in Titans territory. They drove to the 12-yard-line Brian Orakpo Jersey White , but couldn’t get into the end zone and the field goal unit came in for the rare thing that has gone the Titans’ way. Punter Corey Bojorquez appeared to either bobble the snap or try a fake that no one else on the team was ready for him to run. He threw an incompletion under pressure and got an earful from special teams coach Danny Crossman on the sideline. Adding injury to insult, Bojorquez also hurt his shoulder and is also considered questionable to return.Whatever happened, the Bills still lead 7-3 with the first half winding down in Buffalo.Recap: Titans beat Eagles 26-23 in overtime The Titans came out firing on Sunday afternoon, giving us some flashes of what could be with this offense under Matt LaFleur. We really haven’t seen much of it due to injuries up front and to Marcus Mariota. Early on, that changed today. Mariota is finally getting healthy and it showed. LaFleur dialed up multiple shots down the field to Corey Davis and Taywan Taylor. The connection wasn’t quite there, however. Mariota missed a wide open Davis, which should have been six, then Jonnu Smith had a key drop to stop the first drive. The Titans settled for three points to open the game.Mariota came back on the next drive with a good ball to Taylor down the middle of the field deep, but contact forced an incomplete pass. So early on, the Titans missed two opportunities to get into the endzone. After dominating much of the first half, Tennessee found themselves trailing. A deep strike to Jordan Matthews put the Eagles ahead midway through the second quarter. It was Malcolm Butler once again giving up the deep ball. With the seconds winding down in the first half Rashaan Evans Jersey White , Mariota tossed a pick, giving the Eagles a shot to add to their lead. Luckily for the Titans, that was only three points. Philadelphia took a 10-3 lead into halftime. They immediately added to it coming out of the break. A long drive ended with an Alshon Jeffery touchdown, who reeled in a jump ball against LeShaun Sims. Sims was playing for Adoree’ Jackson, who exited the game during the previous play. It didn’t take Mariota long to strike back, however. An efficient drive brought the Titans right back into this one as Mariota scrambled into the endzone to bring it back to a seven point game. The Titans needed a big play defensively — and they got one. It was Harold Landry with the sack fumble, giving Tennessee another chance to close the gap. They were able to add another field goal, bringing the Eagles’ lead to 17-13. Nelson Agholor dropped a pass on third and six, forcing the Eagles to punt back to the Titans with eight minutes to play. A 51 yard Corey Davis catch followed that, setting the Titans up with a golden opportunity to take the lead. And they did just that. Mariota found Tajae Sharpe to go up 20-17 with just five minutes to play. It was a quick three and out for Carson Wentz, who failed to connect with Zach Ertz on third down. The Eagles punted once more , handing the Titans a chance to put this one on ice with 2:45 to play.A quick screen to Davis put the Titans in a third and three situation, but the Titans couldn’t convert on the following play. They went back to Davis on another screen, but didn’t get the blocking that they needed. Wentz got the ball inside Titans’ territory following a big time return on the punt. A screen to Jeffery got them inside of the redzone with just one minute to play. However, the defense held, forcing a fourth and three with 21 seconds to play. Jake Elliott split the sticks to tie things up, which sent us to overtime. The Eagles would get the ball to open. It was Jay Ajayi getting things rolling, picking up a first down off the bat. Wentz came back with a pass to Jeffery for another chunk, then it was Ajayi getting down into the redzone. The Titans bent, but didn’t break. Dean Pees’ group go the stop on third down, forcing another Elliott field goal. The Eagles now led 23-20, meaning the Titans had to answer on their next drive.Mariota delivered a bomb right on the money to Darius Jennings Womens Jurrell Casey Jersey , who dropped it. That ball would have put the Titans in field goal range at least. Instead, the Titans were faced with a third and ten. Mariota threw incomplete to Davis, bringing up fourth and ten. A penalty made it fourth and 15. With the ballgame on the line, Mariota converted. It was Taywan Taylor on a 15 yard out, keeping the Titans alive. They were faced with another fourth down just minutes later, which they were able to convert with the help of a pass interference call. But a negative play on a pitch and a sack set up third and long. Mariota scrambled for 16 yards — enough for a Ryan Succop field goal attempt. Or so we thought. Vrabel changed his mind after an Eagles timeout and went for it. It was Dion Lewis catching a dump off and barreling down to the Eagles 15. Time became a factor now with just 20 seconds to go. Mariota fired two incompletions, setting up third down. But he found Corey Davis in the endzone on the next play. It was a floater that Davis snatched out of the sky to beat the defending Super Bowl champs. Final Score: Titans 26, Eagles 23

News broke early Sunday morning Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver DeSean Jackson has asked the team to trade him ahead of this Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline. There are plenty of discussions happening about whether or not the team should or should not trade him Shaquil Barrett Jersey , with ESPN’s Jenna Laine providing some insight into the front office’s position on the matter.First things first, we can probably rest assured the team will not trade him to a team they still have to face in the 2018 season. This eliminates not only their division rivals, but the Washington Redskins, New York Giants, San Francisco 49ers, Baltimore Ravens and Dallas Cowboys. There are however, 22 other teams who could potentially pursue the speedy veteran who has shown this year he still has big play ability. Who are they, and what could the Bucs get in return?Looking along the lines Laine reported on, Tampa Bay would likely be looking for a player in return who can help the team win this year, with added bonus to players or picks who could also help the franchise win in the future.TRADE PARTNER: GREEN BAY PACKERSMark Hoffman-USA TODAY SportsThe Packers are in a sensitive position given the fact Aaron Rodgers is 34-years old and has been injured many times over the past few seasons. Still, there is a feeling within the franchise they can compete in today’s NFL.Less than stellar defensive play and some inconsistency on offense has plagued Green Bay and forced the team to have to outshoot opponents more often than not. Adding a weapon to Rodgers’ arsenal would help, and if they feel losing safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix in exchange for such a weapon, a deal could be found.Tampa Bay currently has four safeties on the roster with veteran Chris Conte lost for the year. Outside of Justin Evans, none have a secure hold on the other starting position.Injecting a player like Clinton-Dix not only gives him a chance to regain his Pro Bowl form from 2016, but may provide the Bucs an opportunity to secure the back end of their defense now and for years to come.TRADE PARTNER: NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTSQuinn Harris-USA TODAY SportsThe Patriots are not scared of trading high draft picks for players they feel can get them over the hump right now.New England currently sits on top of the AFC East, but the age of Tom Brady, long-term health of tight end Rob Gronkowski and uncertain outlook of head coach Bill Belichick could find this team buying high to get a guy who can give them that little bit extra.Brady’s longest pass this season is 55-yards. Jackson has longs of 58, 75 and 48 in three separate games.Josh Gordon has shown some flashes in the new system, but could benefit greatly from gaining another running mate, as could slot extraordinaire Julian Edelman.Adding Jackson would give New England arguably the most electric offense in the NFL and help sustain the career shelf-life of the quarterback. In exchange, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers would likely be looking at an addition by subtraction situation where Chris Godwin and Adam Humphries see expanded roles in the offense. Added draft picks would aid in plugging any future holes starting in 2019.For a front office unsure of their job security in 2019, this would be one of the more surprising moves due to the lack of impact player brought in for 2018. But, given the rapport Winston already has with Humphries and the improved connection we’ve seen in short periods between he and Godwin from 2017, it could happen.TRADE PARTNER: PHILADELPHIA EAGLESBill Streicher-USA TODAY SportsThis is one of the more popular destinations for Jackson to land as a return to Philadelphia would certainly become one of the bigger stories in the league this year.Philadelphia hasn’t come back from their Super Bowl run with the greatest success this year, but they are still very much in the mix for an NFC East division title and post-season berth. They’re well aware of what Jackson can do, and can still do, after witnessing his four catch 129-yard and one touchdown effort against them in Week 2 of this very season. What would the Eagles offer up? Well, unfortunately it doesn’t seem they have a whole lot to offer the Buccaneers which would help in an area of need. There are some intriguing young cornerbacks the Eagles could potentially leverage in a package with a mid to late round draft pick. However, all of the corners in question have had issues themselves and could bust as much as they could fly in Tampa Bay’s secondary.TRADE PARTNER: DALLAS COWBOYSScott Taetsch-USA TODAY SportsGross. Seeing Jackson in a Redskins uniform was one thing, but seeing him in a Cowboys uniform would be something suitable for Halloween.Still Caleb Benenoch Jersey , the Dallas Cowboys aren’t calling this season in and are still trying to find things to do to help quarterback Dak Prescott get back on track.Trading a first-round pick for wide receiver Amari Cooper will help, but there’s more which could be done.Stretching the field will not only help Prescott and his new target, but it would also help running back Ezekiel Elliott continue his solid start to his career. The Cowboys have scored just three points more than the New York Giants who sat at 1-6 entering Week 8.While Dallas’ record is much better than the Giants’, they can’t be confident in what they have going right now.Again, future draft picks don’t outwardly help the Bucs, but giving guys like Godwin an opportunity to capitalize on early promise could prove to be a solid decision for the future while maintaining some of the offensive effectiveness the team has shown thus far.TRADE PARTNER: OAKLAND RAIDERSKirby Lee-USA TODAY SportsThis is my personal favorite, and that’s why I left it for last. My trade scenario?Tampa Bay sends DeSean Jackson and a 2019 third-round pick to the Oakland Raiders for cornerback Gareon Conley and safety Karl Joseph.Conley was very much made the scapegoat for a struggling Raiders defense. Last week, in a 27-3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks the Raiders surrendered 222-yards passing and three touchdowns to Russell Wilson. The benched former first-round pick played zero snaps on defense. So, Conley isn’t the issue. In fact, the Raiders secondary has done worse than ever with him on the bench.Well, if Oakland doesn’t want to play him, maybe the Buccaneers do?Karly Joseph is a safety who has shown many flashes of the talent which led to his also being selected in the first round coming out of West Virginia. He too has been a consistent rumor as a trade possibility for the Raiders this season. It’s clear Jon Gruden isn’t really interested in most of the young pieces he inherited when he was hired back to the silver and black sideline and it just so happens two of his young guys fit holes the Bucs need to fill.Jackson doesn’t fill any future holes for Gruden, but he does bring a one-year contract (essentially) which he can then dump in the off-season to free up cap space while giving Derek Carr a guy he can target early and often which might keep him healthy long enough to try and put together whatever Gruden has cooking. The third round pick is a bit high for my taste, but getting two young first-round picks out of it is worth the gamble. If both men panned out, then it’s highly likely Jason Licht would be back next offseason, and we all know what he can do despite missing a third-round pick.Following Week 8 where Jackson finally connected with Winston on a deep ball strike in the second quarter, and following Ryan Fitzpatrick’s insertion late in the second half, it’s possible the two sides could come back to center.Who the starting quarterback is moving forward may play a part in how the star receiver feels, but if the franchise’s general manager is being forthright, Jackson will likely finish the year in pewter anyway. In Washington’s first eight games this season, the team that scored first never fell behind on their way to victory. That streak remains alive after Sunday’s game in Tampa. Dustin Hopkins opened the scoring with a field goal, Josh Doctson scored the game’s only touchdown early in the fourth quarter and the defense forced four turnovers in a 16-3 win over the Buccaneers. Two of those turnovers came after Doctson’s score opened the lead to 10 points. Ryan Fitzpatrick was intercepted by Greg Stroman on the first play of the ensuing possession and Jacquizz Rodgers lost a fumble after Dustin Hopkins’ third field goal of the afternoon. Rodgers had the ball punched out by Ryan Anderson around the 18-yard line and the ball rocketed into the end zone where safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix fell on it for a touchback. In addition to Hopkins’ made field goals, punter Tress Way also helped out. He pinned the Bucs inside the 20 on three of his punts, which left Tampa’s offense with a lot of work to do if they were going to score points. With 501 yards, they did a fair amount of that work but they couldn’t finish when it counted and they’re now 3-6 on the season.Fitzpatrick’s first interception of the day ended the first drive of the day for the Bucs and it also came in the red zone. Cornerback Josh Norman picked Fitzpatrick off at the goal-line in the first of a series of miscues for Tampa on the afternoon. In addition to the other turnovers, kicker Chandler Catanzaro missed a pair of field goals and defensive tackle Beau Allen was flagged for roughing Alex Smith on the first play of Washington’s touchdown drive.Any last hopes of a comeback ended when Fitzpatrick lost a fumble on a sack by Ryan Kerrigan one play after Mike Evans dropped a pass in the end zone with just under four minutes to play. The sack was the second of the day by the defense and Washington allowed two, which is a pretty good showing given they were down three starting offensive linemen.Things weren’t overly successful on offense for Washington otherwise. Their touchdown drive accounted for more than 20 percent of the yards that they gained all day, but they never turned the ball over and the win guarantees Washington another week in first place. They’ll host another first place team next week when the Texans bring their six-game winning streak to town.

San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch met with the media on Thursday , and he offered some stunning and entirely unexpected news about the rehab process for quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and running back Jerick McKinnon. Lynch told the 49ers media at the Senior Bowl that both players are doing “exceptionally well” and are on pace to be on the field when training camp opens later this summer.I’m trying to remember the last time a general manager said a rehabbing player was not on or ahead of pace. I know it has happened when a GM is confirming already reported news, but when there isn’t new information out there, I don’t recall ever hearing a GM offer bad news about the situation.Earlier this week, Lynch mentioned seeing Garoppolo throwing the ball with McKinnon on the practice field in Santa Clara. He talked about that on Thursday, saying it fired him up and that both players are “working incredibly hard” in the rehab process. The 49ers kick off their offseason workout program in mid-April, with OTAs in May and minicamp in June. Lynch said Garoppolo could get some work in OTAs, similar to what Kyle Shanahan said back in October. In the meantime, at least we know things are going “exceptionally well.” It’s not just another game for Richard Sherman and the Seahawks, and Doug Baldwin admitted Sherman isn’t just another cornerback he will face Sunday.Sherman and Baldwin remain close and have talked even more this week than they usually do.Sherman said Thursday he didn’t expect the Seahawks to cut him while he was hurt. Seattle released Sherman, who was rehabbing a torn Achilles Joe Staley Jersey White , in the offseason to save $11 million in salary cap space for 2018.Baldwin was more blunt in his assessment of the situation.“I thought it was really s****y to be honest with you, how it ended,” Baldwin said, via video from Gregg Bell of The News Tribune. “I would really have liked for him to stay here and had an opportunity to finish his career with this organization, but it’s part of the business. It doesn’t work that way.”Sherman, 30, spent the first seven seasons of his career in Seattle. He signed with the 49ers soon after the Seahawks cut him.He has allowed only 16 catches for 266 yards this season, according to Pro Football Focus.Baldwin hopes Sherman receives a warm reception from the fans for “everything he’s done for this organization.”

Sorry to say it but this time comes for every team: Offseason talk. Among the most important things to talk about every offseason is of course the Seattle Seahawks’ list of pending free agents. The Seahawks signed tackle Duane Brown and receiver Tyler Lockett to extensions last year Dontae Johnson Jersey , but could not come to long term agreements with some other key players. Here’s who is set to become a free agent in March if they don’t sign before then:Frank Clark, DEK.J. Wright, OLBEarl Thomas, FSJustin Coleman, CBShamar Stephen, DTDion Jordan, DESebastian Janikowski, KD.J. Fluker, GJ.R. Sweezy, GMike Davis, RBNeiko Thorpe, STMychal Kendricks, OLBMaurice Alexander, SBrett Hundley, QBThose are just the unrestricted free agents, and as you can see, Seattle has a lot of work to do. If you excluded Thomas as a “starter” on the defense, since he did miss 12 games and many do not expect to return anyhow, that still includes six starters on offense and defense, plus the starting kicker. The Seahawks are currently projected at $63 million in cap space and $54 million in “effective cap space” by That’s the third-most in the NFC after the San Francisco 49ers and Arizona Cardinals. Seattle is also expected to release safety Kam Chancellor, which will save them another $8 million against the cap, even without a post-June 1 designation. They’ll need plenty of space to start bringing back their own players, which I assume will again be a top priority over bringing in outside “big name” free agents. The Seahawks first concern will be Clark, who had 14 sacks this season. He’s likely looking to top the five-year, $72 million deal signed by Minnesota Vikings DE Danielle Hunter. A four-year, $68 million deal would make Clark the highest-paid 4-3 DE in the NFL at $17 million per year. If Seattle can’t come to an agreement, then a franchise tag would likely be applied and cost the Seahawks over $17 million for one season.Beyond that, they must decide which of their starting guards they want to/can afford to keep, if either; if they see a third contract as a viable option for Wright; if they see Stephen as a long-term option at defensive tackle; and what it’s worth to them to keep Coleman as the nickel cornerback. I would also see it as likely that Seattle starts searching for a new kicker. That still leaves the questions about Thomas, Davis, Jordan, Thorpe, Kendricks, and Hundley. Here are the restricted free agents (per Spotrac, could be errors):Tyler Ott, LSQuinton Jefferson, DEBranden Jackson, DEAkeem King, DBGeorge Fant, TTre Madden, FBAnd Exclusive Rights Free Agents (per spotrac):David Moore, WRJ.D. McKissic, RB/WRJoey Hunt, CAustin Calitro, LBEmmanuel Ellerbe, LBJordan Simmons, GShalom Luani, SAs of this morning, OvertheCap seems to be partially down and Spotrac lists Trevone Boykin as a Seahawk, so pardon any corrections that need to be made. There may also be a free agent or restricted free agent note to be applied to safety T.J. Mutcherson, DE Ricky Ali’Fua, or maybe cornerback Jeremy Boykins. Will update as necessary but whatever the case, Seattle is in no danger of losing a ERFA that they’d want to keep, including Moore, Calitro, Luani, and Simmons. It would be unfair to compare just about any team to the 2013 Seattle Seahawks other than other championship teams. The 2013 Seahawks are in the conversation for a top-five defense all-time and unlike many all-time defenses, they also had a quarterback who is on a Hall of Fame path through his first seven seasons, a Hall of Fame caliber running back Alex McGough Jersey , and a receiver who could definitely be in the Hall of Slot Receivers and if he plays another 7-8 years at a high level ... who knows.Seattle’s 2018 team however had pretty much the quarterback, a hobbled version of that receiver, and the middle linebacker. They had some other nice pieces around them, an advantage here or there to the 2013 Seahawks, but if you actually compare them roster-to-roster you start to wonder just how in the hell this team went 10-6 and made the playoffs.Well, it’s because the 2018 Seahawks were a “playoff team” but as you’ll see in comparing position groups, they are nowhere near a “championship team.” In fact, if you think Seattle was close to resembling the 2012 Seahawks and are one year away from being like they were in 2013, I’d argue that after doing this comparison, they’re more like the 2011 version. Until they find out if Tre Flowers can develop like Richard Sherman, if they’ll have anyone close to the caliber of Earl Thomas, if Jacob Martin is on the rise, if they can add not one, but two really good edge rushers, another defensive tackle, if Shaquill Griffin can at least settle into being a Byron Maxwell type, then Seattle may be two years away from competing for first in the division rather than one. Much like 2012, the Seahawks had to get around a championship-caliber division-mate, and the LA Rams don’t seem likely to slow down that quickly. Now enough of the depressing stuff and onto the more depressing stuff.I’m comparing relevant players at each position. My judgment is just that: my judgment. It is not a fact, just an opinion, and in some cases it’s one that I could change with a good enough argument against it. When I went through each position, I came away with a score of 10 to 2 in advantage of the 2013 Seahawks and fittingly, I think you could make a case for 12-0. Even if you had it at 8-4, most of those eight wins were blowouts. The Seahawks have gone through a lot of changes in the wrong direction over the last five years and yes, I’m one of the optimistic and bright-side Seattle writers! QB - Russell Wilson vs Russell WilsonAdvantage - 2018You could call it a wash if you want to. I think Wilson has certainly improved over the last five years and is a more “complete” quarterback with all the experience that comes with starting the number of games he has in that period of time. Consider that he’s also doing more with a lot less. If you factored in salary then you could make a stronger argument for 2012-2015 Wilson, but I’m not doing that here.RB - Marshawn Lynch vs Chris CarsonBackups - Robert Turbin, Christine Michael vs Mike Davis, Rashaad PennyFB - Derrick Coleman vs Tre MaddenAdvantage - 2013Carson actually averaged .5 more yards per carry this season than Lynch did during Seattle’s Super Bowl run, and he’s one of my favorite backs in the league, but there’s only one Marshawn Lynch. That’s kind of also the point: Carroll could more easily utilize a single-back system with Lynch, who played more downs, didn’t miss any games, scored more touchdowns, and had more receiving yards. Even including backup contributions, the better backfield seemed to belong to 2013.WR - Doug Baldwin, Golden Tate, Jermaine Kearse, Sidney Rice, Ricardo Lockette (Percy Harvin) vs Doug Baldwin, Tyler Lockett, David Moore, Jaron Brown, Brandon MarshallAdvantage - 20132018 Lockett might be the best receiver in the whole bunch, but this season also included a hobbled Baldwin and pretty poor depth that showed itself when they were called upon to do more because of Doug’s health. A healthy Baldwin and Tate were a more complete and consistent 1-2, while Kearse came up huge in the playoffs.TE - Zach Miller, Luke Willson, Kellen Davis vs Ed Dickson, Nick Vannett, Will DisslyAdvantage - 2013Miller didn’t quite live up to the expectations of his free agent contract in 2011 but he alone was probably far more effective than Dickson and Vannett combined. Would have liked to have seen more of Dissly, but unfortunately for everyone that did not happen. The tight ends in 2018 were perhaps one of the most underrated weaknesses of the team.OL - Russell Okung, James Carpenter, Max Unger, JR Sweezy, Breno Giacomini vs Duane Brown, JR Sweezy, Justin Britt, DJ Fluker, Germain IfediBackups - Paul McQuistan, Alvin Bailey , Lemuel Jeanpierre, Michael Bowie vs Joey Hunt, Jordan Simmons, Ethan Pocic, George FantAdvantage - 2013 I have it as 2013, but I don’t know, Okung did miss half of the season. Both lines had their strengths at left tackle and center, but I’d think Unger is typically considered the superior player to Britt. I don’t think any of the other starters are particular “strengths” but at best it might be a wash.DT - Brandon Mebane, Tony McDaniel, Clinton McDonald vs Jarran Reed, Shamar Stephen, Poona Ford, Nazair JonesAdvantage - 2013Similar to Lockett and the receiver, Reed might be the best of the group but the depth in 2013 was so fantastically better. We all like Ford, but he wasn’t even utilized that heavily until late in the year.DE - Cliff Avril, Michael Bennett, Chris Clemons. Red Bryant, O’Brien Schofield vs Frank Clark, Quinton Jefferson, Dion Jordan, Branden Jackson, Rasheem GreenAdvantage - 2013Either this or cornerback or safety is the biggest slaughter of comps, which emphasizes just how next-level the 2013 Seattle defense was. They will go down with a few Hall of Famers, a handful of Pro Bowlers, and a bevy of talented starters, some of whom were relegated to backup duty on that 53. Clark was a top-ranked pass rusher in 2018, but Avril, Bennett, Clemons, and Bryant is just sledgehammer after sledgehammer for opposing tackles and running backs. LB - Bobby Wagner, KJ Wright, Bruce Irvin, Malcolm Smith, Mike Morgan vs Bobby Wagner, KJ Wright, Mychal Kendricks, Barkevious Mingo, Jacob Martin, Austin Calitro, Shaquem GriffinAdvantage - 2013A couple of the names might be the same and Wagner is as good as ever, but Wright missed too much time, Kendricks was in the same boat, and Mingo’s not even as good as Smith, let alone Irvin. It’s another big advantage for 2013.CB - Richard Sherman, Brandon Browner, Byron Maxwell, Walter Thurmond vs Shaquill Griffin, Tre Flowers, Justin Coleman, Akeem KingAdvantage - 2013The number one corner is a blowout in 2013’s favor, the number two corner still has an advantage for 2013 though I think we are all hoping Flowers develops like Sherman did. You could maybe argue an advantage in the slot for 2018 but I’m not sure it would be a strong argument and this is another landslide for 2013.S - Earl Thomas, Kam Chancellor vs Bradley McDougald, Tedric Thompson, Delano HillBackups - Jeron Johnson, Chris Maragos vs Maurice Alexander, Shalom LuaniAdvantage - 2013Moving on...K -Steven Hauschka vs Sebastian JanikowskiAdvantage - 2013Hauschka made 33 of 35 attempts in 2013 whereas Janikowski was 22 of 27 and had three missed PATs.P - Jon Ryan vs Michael DicksonAdvantage - 2018Woo, 2018! Some may argue Ryan over Dickson and I really would not care too much. Dickson is a first team All-Pro though and his net average 5.5 yards longer than Ryan’s was in 2013. The team may have been worse this season but Dickson only had four more punts this season than Ryan did that year.

Mariota is heading into a pivotal year.Nerve issues in his elbow kept him off the field for stretches last season and he’s entering the fifth and final year of his rookie deal without any assurances that he’ll be back in Tennessee in 2020. During an interview with Rob DeMello of KHON in Hawaii Womens Adoree' Jackson Jersey , Mariota said that he feels close to 100 percent physically and that he isn’t stressing the contract uncertainty as the offseason unfolds.“My mentality as a competitor never changes. I’m going to do my best to be at my best when the season comes and do my best to win games. All that other stuff will take care of itself,“ Mariota said. “Obviously I love Nashville, I love Tennessee. It’s a great organization to play for. With that being said, they got, it’s a business and you can’t take any of that stuff personal. You just got to go out there and do your thing. No matter what , my number one goal is to get healthy and from there just become a better football player and do my best to be my best when the season comes so we can win games.”Since trading for Ryan Tannehill, Titans General Manager Jon Robinson and head coach Mike Vrabel have both said that he’s coming in to be the No. 2 behind Mariota. Robinson also said that Tannehill is in Tennessee to push and compete with Mariota and any more injury issues — Mariota has not played all 16 games in any of his four seasons — might force the Titans to consider other quarterback options in the future. A moment of high drama arrived on Sunday afternoon in Nashville, when Titans coach Mike Vrabel sent his placekicking unit onto the field for what would have been a possible game-tying field goal late in overtime. The Titans then called time out, and Vrabel seemingly changed his mind.Only he didn’t change his mind.Vrabel explained to PFT on Sunday evening that he called for the kick team in order to prevent any sense of panic or confusion, knowing that he’d eventually call a time out — and in turn not tipping his hand about going for it.And the decision to go for it wasn’t made in the moment. It was the product of the message that Vrabel had sent to his players all week: Be aggressive. That’s what Vrabel was Curley Culp Jersey , and he knows that the players appreciate the confidence in them. But how much confidence did Vrabel have in the decision? Did he consider the criticism he would have absorbed if they’d failed to convert on fourth and short?“Never even crossed my mind,” Vrabel said. “I get criticized a lot.”If they keep doing things like they did today, Vrabel won’t get criticized at all.

The National Football League today announced the 2019 NFL International Series , including the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ Week 6 game against the Carolina Panthers, which will be played at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London on October 13 at 9:30 a.m. EST (2:30 p.m. BST).This will mark Tampa Bay’s third game played in the International Series (also 2009 and 2011) and the Buccaneers’ first time ever playing a divisional opponent in the Series. The matchup between the Buccaneers and Panthers will mark the second-ever NFL contest hosted in Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, following the Chicago Bears and Oakland Raiders game in Week 5.In July 2015, the NFL and English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur reached an agreement for a minimum of two NFL games per year to be played during a 10-year partnership at their stadium. The stadium features a retractable grass field with an artificial surface underneath that will be used for NFL games. This innovative field adds greater flexibility in the scheduling of games, with the NFL having its own playing surface for games held at the venue.Courtesy of the Buccaneers Communications Department. Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Doug Baldwin is inactive for Monday night’s game against the Minnesota Vikings.Baldwin was unable to practice this week due to an injury that has been listed as a hip issue on the team’s injury report. Head coach Pete Carroll has also referred to it as a groin ailment.“He鈥檚 just barely making it through the week right now,” Carroll said on Saturday. “It鈥檚 going to be all the way up until game time before we know.”Baldwin has been on the injury report three times in the last four weeks due to hip and groin issues. Carroll said this injury is slightly different than the one he’d previously dealt with in recent weeks. Injuries to both knees also slowed him for the first half of the season and forced him to miss games in Weeks Two and Three after he sustained an MCL injury in the season opener against Denver. Also out for Seattle are linebacker K.J. Wright (knee), right guard D.J. Fluker (hamstring) and fullback Tre Madden (chest). It’s the 10th game this season Wright has missed after he initially injured the knee in a preseason game against Minnesota. Fluker injured his hamstring last week against the San Francisco 49ers. Madden is missing his second straight game with a sternum injury.Jordan Simmons will start in place of Fluker at right guard with Mychal Kendricks expect to play significant snaps at weak-side linebacker after returning from an eight-game suspension. Also inactive for Seattle are cornerback Kalan Reed , center Joey Hunt and defensive end Branden Jackson.Kendricks’ brother, Eric, is active and will play against Seattle after being listed as questionable with a rib injury. Kendricks did not practice for Minnesota on either Wednesday or Thursday before returning to limited participation on Friday.Cornerback Trae Waynes (concussion), wide receiver Chad Beebe (hamstring) and tight end David Morgan (knee) were ruled out by the Vikings on Friday. Also inactive for the Vikings are quarterback Kyle Sloter, running back Mike Boone, defensive end Tashawn Bower and defensive tackle Jalyn Holmes.

order We’re a long , long ways away from the end of the 2018 season, but given how the San Francisco 49ers are out of lives and continues, it’s time to look at the rest of the NFL. Yep, it’s time to put together a rooting guide once again for interests of draft order. Sure, we could put one together for playoff positioning, but folks, a 1-4 team decimated by injuries just isn’t going to make it there. The 49ers right now share a single win with the New York Giants, Oakland Raiders, Indianapolis Colts, Atlanta Falcons, and Arizona Cardinals. If the 49ers continue this trend of losing, they could be in line for a top-5 pick in 2019, possibly the first pick unless the New York Giants have something to say about it.The Giants got things going on Thursday with their 34-13 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. They dropped to 1-5, and Saquon Barkley is about the only thing that might give them a shot at winning some more games. The 49ers host the Giants in Week 10 on Monday Night Football, in what could be a huge matchup for draft pick implications. The Raiders face off against the Seattle Seahawks in a London game. I have no problem rooting for the Raiders against the Seahawks, especially when draft positioning is on the line. I do think the Raiders can win this game as well, but Seattle is Seattle, and they may have run out of leprechauns to channel that luck. The Colts go up against the New York Jets, who have their own hot and cold rookie quarterback. Given that it’s in New York and the Colts have their issues, I do think the Jets may win, but I wouldn’t put my money on it. The Atlanta Falcons go up against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a divisional matchup. The Falcons are much better than their record indicates and the Bucs have hit their own skid with the disappearance of FitzMagic. Now they have Jameis Winston under center. The 49ers will get a chance to battle for draft positioning with the Buccaneers as well later in the season. Finally, the Arizona Cardinals have the Minnesota Vikings. As much of a kick in the gut a Cardinals win would be, it at least would help the 49ers’ draft positioning. The Vikings have shown a great deal of chinks in the armor and are not the force they were last year. They are still a decent team, but not what I expected this year. Below are the games you should care about: Buccaneers (2-2) at Falcons (1-4): Falcons — The 49ers will get a chance to get beat by the Buccaneers later in the season and the Falcons need to not be messing with any high-picks. Easy pick.Colts (1-4) at Jets (2-3): Colts — This one isn’t so concerning as both teams have plenty of opportunities to get wins through the season. Much like the Falcons, the Colts need some wins to return to .500 hell. Cardinals (1-4) at Vikings (2-2-1):Cardinals — I feel so dirty. Seahawks (2-3) at Raiders (1-4): Raiders — The 49ers will get their chance to get beat by both of them later in the season. The Raiders need to win a few games to get out of a head to head competition. Jon Gruden doesn’t deserve a No. 1 pick. Los Angeles Chargers (3-2) vs. Cleveland Browns (2-2-1): Browns — The Browns have a much better record than the 49ers. That’s disgusting. In any case, they always seem to show up uninvited to the high pick draft party that the 49ers have and ruin everything, so they should be getting another win or two. It also would help the strength of schedule considering the 49ers lost to the Chargers earlier.Final score, recap, more from 49ers-Chiefs in Week 3 49ers-Chiefs final scoreThe Chiefs won the game by a final score of 38-27.Jimmy Garoppolo injuryJimmy Garoppolo suffered a left knee injury on this play and has been taken to the locker room on a cart. He won’t be back for the game, but the bigger question is his status moving forward. And again! The 49ers are suddenly back in this thing. They forced the Chiefs into a 3-and-out, and then drove 77 yards down the field for a touchdown. A successful two-point conversion has cut the Chiefs lead to 35-24. The drive was keyed by a pair of 3rd down conversions, one thanks to an offsides penalty, and one on a beautiful 18 yard pass to George Kittle as Jimmy Garoppolo was being blitzed. Alfred Morris had a big showing on the drive, and we’ve got a ballgame. The 49ers find the end zoneThe 49ers scored their second touchdown of the day, but a missed extra point has them trailing 35-16 in the third quarter. Marquise Goodwin got wide open on the short pass that was set up by some huge plays. Pierre Gar莽on picked up 11 yards for an opening first down. A botched snap almost led to disaster, but Jimmy Garoppolo got the pitch to Matt Breida, who picked up 27 yards. Breida added 21 yards on a run, followed by a 23-yard catch and run by George Kittle. That set up the score, as the 49ers look to get back into this thing. This game is a disasterThe 49ers gave up two more touchdowns in the second quarter. San Francisco kicked a field goal as time expired in the half, and now trail 35-10 heading into the third quarter. Free safety Adrian Colbert (hip) and Richard Sherman (calf) left the game and Sherman has been listed as questionable to return.Chiefs respondThe 49ers defense has been a mess on third down. They had the Chiefs at 3rd and goal on the 4-yard line, and Mahomes running around with nothing to find. Mahomes chucked it into the back of the end zone to a wide open Conley. It gives the Chiefs a 21-7 lead.49ers find the end zoneThe San Francisco 49ers managed to convert a huge drive into points, cutting the Chiefs lead to 14-7. Kyle Juszczyk got wide open on a busted coverage, resulting in a 35-yard catch and run for the touchdown. The 49ers had a 1st and 25 and then 2nd and 26, but George Kittle had a huge 3rd and 16 catch to set up 4th and 1. Alfred Morris converted, and then Jimmy Garoppolo found Juice for the huge touchdown. Here’s the score:And againThe Chiefs got back on the board with another Kareem Hunt rushing touchdown. The 49ers had the Chiefs set up with a 3rd and 15, but K’Waun Williams committed pass interference in the end zone. That set up a 1st and goal at the 1, which the Chiefs quickly punched in to take a 14-0 lead.Chiefs score firstThe Kansas City Chiefs jumped on the board with a Kareem Hunt rushing touchdown, and now lead 7-0. They made two big third down conversions, both of which were blown opportunities for the 49ers. The Chiefs converted a 3rd and 1 after Fred Warner missed a tackle on Tyreek Hill in the backfield. They then picked up 14 yards on a 3rd and 15 when Andy Reid dialed up a screen pass to counter the 49ers aggressive blitz. They converted the fourth down and eventually scored.Starting lineupThe 49ers warmups feature a starting lineup that includes Malcolm Smith at SAM, as mentioned below. Additionally, Jimmie Ward is warming up at right cornerback opposite Richard Sherman, in place of Ahkello Witherspoon. Week 2 was a rough one for Witherspoon, who also was dealing with an ankle injury. Witherspoon is active this week, but it appears he will come off the bench against the Chiefs.Linebacker plansThe 49ers apparently are set to go with three inside linebackers at their SAM, MIKE, and WILL positions. Matt Maiocco is reporting that a source told him the plan is start Malcolm Smith at SAM, Fred Warner at MIKE, and Reuben Foster at WILL. Mark Nzeocha had been the team’s starting SAM linebacker the first two weeks.InactivesBig news for the 49ers, as wide receiver Marquise Goodwin is active. He was dealing with a quadricep injury, but appears set to play. He brings a huge presence if fully healthy. Meanwhile, Jaquiski Tartt is inactive, and Antone Exum will start in his place at strong safety.49ers inactives: OG Joshua Garnett, S Jaquiski Tartt, WR Richie James, Jr., OL Najee Toran, DL Jullian Taylor, OT Shon Coleman, CB Greg MabinChiefs inactives: S Eric Berry, LB Ben Niemann, RB Darrel Williams, OL Austin Reiter, OL Kahlil McKenzie, DL Justin Hamilton, CB Charvarius Ward49ers-Chiefs previewThe San Francisco 49ers hop back onto the road to Arrowhead Stadium to face the Kansas City Chiefs. Outside of the Los Angeles Rams, this might be the most difficult game on the first half of the 49ers’ schedule. The Chiefs are white hot thanks to the superb play of Patrick Mahomes who has thrown 10 touchdowns in two games. This will be his fourth start (he started a game in 2017) so maybe things will slow down a bit now that teams have some film on him. Even if that’s possible, the 49ers will have their hands full. This will be an morning game kicking off at 10 A.M.The game will air on Fox and you can see who gets it by looking at our broadcast map. Thom Brennaman and Chris Spielman will be in the booth Jerry Rice Jersey , while Peter Schrager will be on the sideline. The 49ers beat the Detroit Lions in an ugly win that felt more like a loss than anything else. That very feeling shows how expectations have changed in San Francisco. The 49ers are still rebuilding, but there is more expected out of this young team. The biggest issue with the Lions was the number of sacks that Jimmy Garoppolo took. They are a result of a blanketed secondary, but Garoppolo made some maddening decisions to tuck the ball and take a hit instead of take off or throw the ball away. Beyond the sacks, the Lions offense managed to lay 27 points on the 49ers defense. Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford was off,for lack of a better word as Lions receivers managed to get open with ease. That won’t be the case if the Chiefs get that chance. The good news is the 49ers get linebacker Reuben Foster back now that his suspension is complete. The team is like night and day when Foster is on the field and hopefully his ressence can give this defense the surge it needs to keep up with the Chiefs. The Chiefs made headlines in the offseason with their decision to move on from quarterback Alex Smith who had a terrific year in 2017. Smith was traded to Washington, allowing second year QB Patrick Mahomes the starting job. So far, the decision has been the right one as Mahomes has been nothing short of superb with his weapons in Travis Kelce and Tyreek Hill. Being that it’s Week 3, if he can keep this production through the season will definitely be something to watch. For Week 2, the Chiefs will be without starting safety Eric Berry. Linebacker Ben Niemann is also not expected to play.Running back Spencer Ware is expected to play on Sunday. The 49ers are still waiting on a decision with safety Jaquiski Tartt (shoulder). They promoted Tyvis Powell in anticipation for Tartt being unable to go on Sunday. Wide receiver Marquise Goodwin (quad) remains a gametime decision. will be joined by veterans deemed too costly by their current teams in the coming days and weeks. Which pass rushers expected to be released could Seattle target?"With free agency opening on March 14 Ben Burr-Kirven Seattle Seahawks Jersey , the group of pending free agents will begin to inflate in the coming days and weeks. A wave of players will soon flood the market, deemed too expensive by their current teams to stick around. At some positions, it will be a welcome influx of talent. Count EDGE among those positions which will need a boost, with the majority of the top end talent certain to be retained by their current clubs. Luckily for pass rush needy teams such as the Seattle Seahawks, more talent should soon be made available. Here are the EDGEs at risk of getting cut (or already have been) who could be a fit in Seattle. Olivier VernonAmong all players listed here, Vernon is the most talented and would be the most impactful addition; not a coincidence, he’s also the most likely to remain with his current team. The Giants signed Vernon to a massive, five year, $85M deal with $40M fully guaranteed in 2016. Since then, Vernon’s been a solid, if not great player in New York, with 22 sacks and 28 tackles for loss in three seasons. The Giants can save $11.5M towards the cap if they release Vernon, though they would incur a dead money charge of $8M. With approximately $28M in cap space currently available, and just Landon Collins needing to be re-signed among their premier talent, New York could wait until next offseason when the dead money is much more palatable ($4M). However, Vernon’s been floated by Over The Cap’s Jason Fitzgerald and’s Gregg Rosenthal as a potential cut. If Vernon were to hit the open market, the Seahawks would surely be interested. He’s a true three down lineman capable of playing the run and pass, and would make a terrific partner for Frank Clark. Though Vernon had just seven sacks in 2018, his pressure rate of 11.1 reflects the type of disruptive presence he is, and the type of rusher Pete Carroll desires—someone who affects the quarterback. Robert QuinnA footnote in the Rams’ busy 2018 offseason was a trade that sent Quinn to the Dolphins, ridding themselves of the $22M remaining on his contract at the time. Now, Miami themselves are likely to get rid of Quinn, saving just under $13M in the process. The Dolphins pending release of Quinn is a reflection of the realities of the NFL rather than Quinn’s play last season. In just his second season as a stand up rusher, Quinn registered 6.5 sacks, 35 pressures and nine tackles for loss. More impressive was his NFL-leading pass rush win rate of 40 percent, a staggering number and five percent higher than the next closest rusher (Jadeveon Clowney). Quinn will be in his age-29 season in 2019 and can certainly still help a team. Landing in Seattle would allow Quinn to avoid double teams, like he enjoyed when playing with Aaron Donald, as well as giving him a chance to play his former team in L.A. twice a season. Vinny CurryThe Eagles’ depth inevitably had to take a hit following their Super Bowl victory in 2018, and their inability to retain Curry was a part of that. As a free agent, Curry signed a three year, $23M deal with the Buccaneers, only to be cut after one season. On an entirely terrible defense last season, Curry was a disappointment for Tampa Bay: 2.5 sacks, five tackles for loss and a pressure rate of 9.4. Similar to his former teammate Brandon Graham, a deal between the Seahawks and Curry would likely be one of two EDGE additions this spring, as Curry is much more of a depth addition than difference maker like a Vernon or Ezekiel Ansah. Curry has been a starter in just one season of his career (2017); the most productive season of his career came in a year in which he played 32 percent of the defense’s snaps. Depth in a pass rushing group is a must in the modern NFL, and it’s something Seattle currently lacks. The signing of Curry would be unlikely to inject double-digit sacks into the group, but it would absolutely provide depth. Adrian ClaybornIn writing about free agent pass rushers the Seahawks could target, I likened Graham’s production and situation to Clayborn 2019 Ben Burr-Kirven Jersey , who signed a two year, $10M deal with the Patriots last spring. Clayborn plummeted back to Earth after a 9.5-sack 2017, producing just 2.5 sacks and three tackles for loss in 2018. Now, New England can release Clayborn and save $3.9M, while incurring a cap hit of $2M. The Patriots have $15.7M in cap space currently, and need to sign Trey Flowers, their best defensive player, to a new deal. Clayborn is a reliable edge defender who can play against the run and pass, but could be released to make the room needed to round out a roster expected to make another Super Bowl charge.Clayborn isn’t a flashy player by any stretch, nor would he particularly move the needle. However, in the name of restoring the depth that left Seattle, he would be a solid addition to the Seahawks rotation. Vic BeasleyThrough four seasons in the NFL, Beasley has remained an entirely puzzling player. Though he wasn’t aided by Dan Quinn and the Falcons repeatedly switching his position, from defensive end to linebacker and back again, Beasley has thoroughly disappointed in three of his four seasons. The one season he didn’t disappoint, however, Beasley led the league in sacks with 15.5 and was named a first-team All-Pro.Now set to play 2019 under his fifth-year option worth $12.8M, it’s expected Atlanta will cut ties with the former first round selection. If Beasley does indeed hit the open market, he could be a highly intriguing option for Seattle. He has familiarity with Carroll’s defense, having played his entire career in Quinn’s system. Additionally, he clears all of the Seahawks’ athletic thresholds at the position—with the lone exception being arm length, where he falls 1/2” short—and is a 99th percentile athlete. Above all else, Seattle prioritizes the three cone drill with their EDGEs. Three times in the Carroll era, the Seahawks have taken the pass rusher who posted the best three cone in their class. Frank Clark was one of those three, but only because Beasley and his three cone of 6.91 seconds was grouped in with the linebackers, as opposed to defensive linemen. The fit is obvious, as is the need for Seattle. Beasley has an element of risk to him, but the upside is extremely high. It’s worth noting another big name pass rusher likely to be cut, Justin Houston, would be extremely unlikely to land with the Seahawks. The reason for Houston’s expected release—besides his $21.1M cap hit—is his fit in new Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo’s 4-3 defense. If Seattle’s going to give a free agent pass rusher a sizable deal, regardless of length, it isn’t going to be for one who’s a questionable fit within the scheme. Despite the likelihood of the top pass rushers being re-signed by their current teams, the Seahawks and their $51.9M in cap space should have an impressive group of EDGEs to target next month. Retaining Clark is the top priority, and once that’s accomplished, Seattle can begin to bring in some help for him. A new deal with Mychal Kendricks on Wednesday hasn’t precluded the Seattle Seahawks from keeping another prominent linebacker on their roster.According to Gregg Bell of the , linebacker K.J. Wright has agreed to a deal to return to the Seahawks.Terms of the agreement have not yet been disclosed.A source had indicated to on Wednesday night that Wright was moving toward reaching a deal after becoming a free agent for the first time in his eight-year career. Wright had said multiple times that he wanted to remain in Seattle with the Seahawks, but that he was also looking forward to testing the free agent market to assure he was getting a fair contract.Wright has spent his entire career with the Seahawks after being a fourth-round draft pick in 2011. Wright and middle linebacker Bobby Wagner have teamed together for the last seven seasons as one of the more explosive linebacker tandems in the NFL.Wright did miss 11 regular season games last year after a knee injury sustained in the preseason required surgery. He missed the first six games of the season before returning to the field. However, Wright would aggravate the injury just three weeks into his return and miss another five games before returning for the final two weeks of the regular season and playoffs.Wright said at the end of the year that his knee felt back to full strength and he had his best game of the season in Seattle’s playoff loss to the Dallas Cowboys with eight tackles and an interception.

NASHVILLE Anton Khudobin Jersey Womens , Tenn. (AP) — knew they had to shake off an ugly performance to keep pace in the playoff chase, and the schedule gave them a quick chance to do just that. The Hurricanes didn’t waste the opportunity.Nino Niederreiter scored twice in the first period and the Hurricanes held off the Nashville Predators 5-3 on Saturday night to sweep the season series.Sebastian Aho had a goal and an assist and Justin Williams and Jordan Martinook also scored. The Hurricanes snapped a two-game skid that included an 8-1 loss to Winnipeg on Friday night and jumped a spot to third in the Metropolitan Division in the Eastern Conference pushing Pittsburgh down to the first wild card.“We knew what kind of a stage that we’re in right now,” Niederreiter said. “We’re all fighting for a playoff spot. I think we’re in a good position, so we made sure we can’t lose like that like last night 8-1. We had to make sure we bounce back and that’s what we did.”Teuvo Teravainen had two assists, and goalie Petr Mrazek improved to 8-0-0 against Nashville after making 31 saves.“It’s been the story of the year,” Carolina coach Rod Brind’Amour said. “We’re a battling team. We’re working hard, but we’re making mistakes just like everyone else. We need big saves at key times, and that’s what we’ve been getting.”Mikael Granlund, Brian Boyle and Craig Smith scored for the Predators.Nashville coach Peter Laviolette pulled goalie Juuse Saros with about 2:33 left, and Granlund scored with 2:28 left right in front with officials waving it off both on the ice and after an initial review for interference by Boyle who collided with Mrazek. The Predators challenged and won for Granlund’s first goal since being acquired at the trade deadline.Aho sealed the win with an empty-net goal with 19.3 seconds left. The Predators played without Filip Forsberg, day to day with a lower-body injury. Granlund replaced Forsberg on the top line with Viktor Arvidsson and Ryan Johansen. Nashville also was coming off its first three-day break since the team’s mandated break immediately after the All-Star Game in late January.Carolina also had to travel after losing to Winnipeg. That didn’t stop the Hurricanes from jumping on the Predators early, outshooting them 16-8 and grabbing a 2-0 lead after the first period.“We played it right from the onset, and we atoned from a dismal performance last night Wade Megan Jersey Womens ,” Williams said. The Predators got into penalty trouble early and often starting with Smith just 30 seconds into the game. Then they wound up giving the Hurricanes a 5-on-3 for 95 seconds with back-to-back tripping penalties on Matt Irwin and captain Roman Josi. Saros, starting for Pekka Rinne, made seven saves during the penalty kill to keep it scoreless.Niederreiter put Carolina up 1-0 at 14:29 with a wrister from the left circle that went top shelf over Saros’ glove. Nashville took its fourth penalty for too many men on the ice during a power play, and Niederreiter made it 2-0 with a second left tipping in Teravainen’s shot from the slot on the man advantage for his 11th goal in 22 games with the Hurricanes.Nashville finished with five penalties and gave up two power plays. Laviolette said the too many men penalty while on the power play should not happen.“We know our changes, and we need to execute it,” Laviolette said. “That’s an opportunity for us to get into the game and it slipped away.Smith got Nashville on the board at 2:52 of the second, beating Mrazek’s blocker with a slap shot from the top of the right circle.Williams scored Carolina’s second power-play goal 55 seconds into the third. Boyle answered quickly scoring at 2:35 to pull Nashville within 3-2. Then Martinook beat Saros with a wrister at 6:38 to pad the lead for Carolina.NOTES: The Hurricanes improved to 10-3-1 in the second game of back-to-backs. … Williams notched his seventh straight 20-goal season. … Nashville dropped to 5-17-4 when trailing after the second period.UP NEXTHurricanes: At Colorado on Monday night.Predators: At Anaheim on Tuesday night. BUFFALO, N.Y. It was Boston’s first victory this season when trailing through two periods after going 0-11-1 previously.“I just wanted to get it on net, really,” Kuraly said. “I got more on it than I really thought.”Kuraly’s third goal of the season came on a terrific one-man effort. His initial shot from the top of the left circle led to a big rebound, and Kuraly followed up with speed to chip the loose puck into the net with one hand on his stick.“I saw it was a forward I was coming down on Tobias Rieder Jersey Womens ,” Kuraly said. “I just wanted to get there first. … I was just going on like, whatever, intuition I guess.”Jake DeBrusk and Noel Acciari scored in regulation for Boston, which improved to 21-14-4 ahead of Tuesday’s Winter Classic against the Chicago Blackhawks at Notre Dame Stadium. Tuukka Rask made 26 saves.“To be able to come back, that’s another feather in our cap for being able to do it that way,” Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy said. “We needed it a lot. We wanted to enjoy these two days. Let’s face it, for a lot of guys it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to go up to South Bend. … You want to go there and enjoy it.”Johan Larsson and Marco Scandella scored for Buffalo. Carter Hutton stopped 38 shots.“I thought we played a very strong 60 minutes,” Sabres coach Phil Housley said. “You can’t fault our effort. We attacked the game. It’s going to be like this for the rest of the season where it’s going to be tight.”The Sabres had a prime opportunity to win with a power play in overtime but were unable to test Rask in the extra session.“It goes to overtime and it can go either way,” Larsson said. The Bruins poured it on in the third, outshooting Buffalo 18-5, and were rewarded with DeBrusk’s power-play goal with 2:29 remaining. He has 644 goals and 536 assists in his NHL career.“We’re so fortunate to have him here in Washington,” coach Todd Reirden said. “You take for granted what a special, special player he is, not even just here in Washington, but for the whole National Hockey League and how he’s really been that second tier, maybe third tier of Russian players that have come over and now they just continue to turn out players.” CALGARY, Alberta (AP) — Flames rookie Andrew Mangiapane got a lucky bounce and took full advantage.Mangiapane scored the go-ahead goal with 3:29 left and Calgary beat the Anaheim Ducks 2-1 on Friday night for its fourth straight victory. The rookie left wing tried to pass the puck across to Garnet Hathaway on a 2-on-1. Instead it hit Ducks defenseman Jaycob Megna and came right back to Mangiapane, who ripped a shot over the shoulder of goalie Ryan Miller.“It hit off the guy’s skate and came back to me and I had an empty net,” Mangiapane said. “Definitely a nice feeling to get that goal and it was a big two points.”TJ Brodie also scored for Calgary (38-16-7), which moved three points ahead of San Jose atop the Pacific Division. The Flames lead the Western Conference standings as well.Making his fifth consecutive start, Mike Smith had 25 saves to improve to 18-11-2.Derek Grant scored for Anaheim (24-28-9) Alex Killorn Jersey Kids , which dropped to 1-1-0 on a four-game road trip. The Ducks had won three of their first four under interim coach Bob Murray.Miller stopped 26 shots but fell to 6-3-1.Making things that much more difficult for a Ducks offense that ranks last in the NHL was the late scratch of leading scorer Ryan Getzlaf (upper body).“I think there were a lot of positives to carry over tomorrow from this game,” Anaheim center Adam Henrique said.“They’ve got a good group and we stuck with them for most of the game. It’s obviously a couple mistakes that end up in the back of our net, and we didn’t take advantage of those power plays that we had.”Combined with Minnesota’s win at Detroit, the Ducks’ loss dropped them seven points back of the second wild card in the Western Conference.“It’s always tough to lose and these are valuable points, but that team is one of the best in the league,” said Anaheim rookie Troy Terry. “We saw what we can do as a team if we’re skating and playing the way we can. It (stinks) to lose, but it’s something we can definitely build off.”The 22-year-old Mangiapane has three goals in his last seven games after failing to score any in his first 26 NHL games, 16 of them this season.“Every game it’s grown for me,” Mangiapane said when asked about his confidence level lately. “Playing with (Derek Ryan) and (Hathaway) and getting more comfortable and building chemistry. They’re smart players to play with so it’s easy to shoot the puck and create chances.”Flames coach Bill Peters likes what the team has in the 5-foot-10 forward, a sixth-round draft pick in 2015.“He’s a dynamic little guy and he’s competitive. He’s hard on pucks. He’s tenacious. He goes into the hard areas. We really like him a lot,” Peters said. “He’s spent his time and learned the craft in the American League Andrei Vasilevskiy Jersey , which is good to do and important, and he’s come up here now and that line has been real good for us.”The only two goals in a lackluster opening 40 minutes came five minutes apart early in the second period. At 1:22, Brodie’s point shot deflected off Megna and slipped past Miller.Smith was the culprit on the tying goal. He left his net to attempt to play a puck that was coming around the end boards. Instead, Carter Rowney arrived at the same time and flicked the puck into the slot, where Grant fired a one-timer into the open net.Visibly upset about the blunder, Smith slammed his stick on the ice.“I’ve let in plenty of goals that weren’t very good. It’s one thing to let it in. It’s over, it’s done with. You’ve just got to worry about that next shot and keep going, keep playing it,” he said.Miller made the best stop of the game in the first period when he dove across the net to rob Austin Czarnik on a backhand. Czarnik had a three-game goal streak snapped.NOTES: Calgary rookie defenseman Oliver Kylington (lower body) did not play. … A trio of Flames reached career game milestones: Mikael Backlund (600), Sam Bennett (300) and Noah Hanifin (300). … The Flames improved to 28-4-1 when they score first.UP NEXTDucks: Play in Edmonton on Saturday night.Flames: Play at Ottawa on Sunday.
